Highland Prep West has an ongoing partnership with Victory Autism Academy through the Best Buddies program. This initiative brings together student ambassadors from Highland Prep West with students from Victory Autism Academy, promoting socialization, friendship, and understanding.
Once a month, student ambassadors from Highland Prep West visit Victory Autism Academy where they engage in activities, play games, and build meaningful relationships with the students. This program has not only fostered friendships but also provided a valuable learning experience for the Highland Prep West students.
Mara Gutierrez, a student ambassador, highlighted the joy and excitement of the Victory Autism Academy students when they visit. "They're always really excited to see us again, and it's great being able to make them feel good and comfortable."
Owen Davis, another student ambassador, reflected on the importance of socialization, particularly during the teenage years. "I've learned a lot about how important socialization is, especially in teen years. These students are around our same age, and it's nice to be their friend and have us be someone they can talk to and confide in."
The Best Buddies program has been a resounding success, promoting empathy, understanding, and inclusivity among the students. Highland Prep West is proud to be a part of this initiative and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Victory Autism Academy.
