Highland Prep West, a STEM college preparatory high school in Avondale, is excited to announce the launch of its new robotics space, a cutting-edge facility dedicated to empowering students passionate about STEM fields.
This innovative hub is designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning, providing students with access to robotics equipment and software, collaborative workspaces for team projects, and even a flight simulator for students interested in aviation. Students are already looking forward to utilizing the space to prepare for the 2024-2025 robotics competition. "We plan to set up the new arena for this year and practice strategies in preparation for competition season," said Michael Sullivan, a member of the robotics team. "We'll be way more prepared and at ease for competition, knowing we've had time to practice and fine-tune our robot."
When asked about his passion for robotics, Gavin Aldrich shared, "There's a certain satisfaction of building something and it failing, and trying it again and it failing again, and once it finally works, and it works well and it's consistent… it's honestly the best feeling. Gavin's sentiments were echoed by his teammates, who share his passion for STEM. "The fact I am able to make something as complex as these robots is truly impressive," added Carter Watson. "Programming the robot to do things I would have never thought I'd be able to do on my own is amazing."
As a growing school, Highland Prep West has officially expanded to include freshmen through juniors, leading to a larger group of students interested in robotics this new academic year. "With this new space, we're excited to take the new members under our wing and show them how to code, drive, and build," said Clara Bradford, one of the veteran robotics members.
As Highland Prep West officially opens the doors to the new robotics hub for their students, they look forward to witnessing the incredible projects, designs, and memories that will emerge from this collaborative environment.
