Highland Prep West Extends STEM Expertise to Tres Rios Through Drone Education

Highland Prep West mentors Tres Rios students in drone technology.

Highland Prep West is proud to announce its partnership with Tres Rios Service Academy to bring drone technology education to elementary school students. Through this collaboration, the Highland Prep West Drone Club have been sharing their expertise with younger students, teaching them the fundamentals of drone flight, obstacle navigation, and coding. This hands-on experience sparked excitement and curiosity among the students from Tres Rios Service Academy.

Our Drone members, Jaylen Chase, Ruby Garcia, Amanda Nuñez and Makayla Sison, led the initiative, bridging the technology gap for under-resourced students. Ruby Garcia, a junior at Highland Prep West, reflected on the experience: "It was nice to see how engaged the students were. You could tell that drones were something they were really interested in, but didn't have the resources to explore that vast before." "Seeing the excitement on their faces when they took their first flight or navigated the obstacle course was incredible. It felt great knowing we could provide their first hands-on experience with drone technology" added Makayla Sison.

Building on this momentum, Highland Prep West looks forward to continuing its mentorship role. In their next session, the Highland Prep West Drone Club will travel to Tres Rios Service Academy to help set up the school's first obstacle course.
